Sandals Overwater Bungalows: South Coast Jamaica

The Sandals Overwater Bungalows, South Coast (formerly Sandals White House) has been on my hot travel list since it’s debut in December 2017.

Located south of the Montego Bay Airport, the overwater bungalows are the third set in the Caribbean; right after Saint Lucia and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Just last week, I spent a few days at this property to experience the best it has to offer. Here are the details.

Sandals South Coast Overview

Just 1.5hrs away from the second city of Montego Bay and just about 3hrs west of Kingston, this Sandals property is located on a 2-mile stretch along the South Coast of Westmoreland.

Nestled right outside of the town of White House, Westmoreland,  Sandals South Coast creates the perfect hideaway spot for visitors who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the everyday life.

Equipped with only beachfront rooms, 9 full-service restaurants, 7 full-service bars, 3 swimming pools; a well-relaxed staycation is guaranteed.

Sandals Overwater Bungalows

Just this past December, the Sandals Team opened up their third overwater bungalows in the Caribbean. This came right after the openings at Sandals Royal Caribbean and Grande St. Lucian.

I have been itching to take it all in and couldn’t have been happier to have gotten the chance  to do so a few days ago.

Though the third (3rd) one for Sandals, this South Coast location has been deemed special, thus, have been completely raved about ever since it opened doors just over 2-months ago.

Let me get into it by stating the obvious. It is heart-shaped! Though not visible from on ground, a bird’s-eye view will give you the perfect heart-shaped perspective.

Also, in case you are wondering, yes, the Bungalows has Honeymoon written all over it.

The 12- Tahiti-styled overwater bungalows, first comes with a heart— along with 24-hr room service, a personal butler and endless panoramic views both for sunrise and sunset. If you are a lover of the golden hour; brace yourself.

During my time here, I have had the chance to spot a few of my favourites… The overwater bungalows do not only give you endless views, your own personal access to go swimming/snorkeling, but each room is equipped with a glass bottom [view]. Fish spotting from your room anyone?

Then again.. Unlike the other two (2) overwater bungalow locations, the Sandals South Coast manages to have a few of its rooms with views facing the ocean, hence 100% exclusive privacy. My take on it… If you have never had an outside shower/bath in the Caribbean, this might be your chance. In fact, this IS your chance.

Make sure to place the special request when going through the booking process.

Food & Dining

Aside from having room services available, this all-inclusive location has 9 full-service restaurants on property. From an Asian cuisine to Italian to a Mediterranean and to, of course, Caribbean. Having fully indulged during my time here — the Asian cuisine was my one of favourites. Though I personally recommend creating a tight bond with the Caribbean cuisine, if you are up to trying something different, I suggest going for Jasmines for an evening dinner. (Asian cuisine).

Sandals South Coast craves out the ideal getaway for couples, honeymooners and vacationers looking to have a relaxed staycation but also one with plenty of water sports. Paddleboarding, snorkeling, windsurfing, scuba diving.. It is all there!

Also, if you would like to add a few day trips to your stay, I recommend visiting the well-known YS Falls and the Black River Safari which is approximately 90-minutes away. Do enjoy!

It looks like Sandals has really upped its game since our stay with them 17 years ago for our honeymoon. Might have to pay them a visit and see for ourselves.

17 years is a long time, Eric! Lol. They have made some changes. Be sure to check out the Bungalows when you do get to visit. (:

Well, it depends on what you are looking for. If the bungalows are out of your budget there are beachfront deluxe rooms available on the main property. 🙂
