Moon San Villa- Portland, Jamaica (Review)
I was lucky enough to have experienced the East Coast of Jamaica while staying at the Moon San Villa in Portland, Port Antonio.
Overview of Portland, Port Antonio
I was so excited to travel across the country to bask in the green lush of the East Coast of Jamaica. A 2.5 hours scenic drive from the country’s capital and 3 hours from the North coast, Montego Bay. I would say, if you ever get a chance to visit Jamaica try to make it to the East Coast; a rare beauty of the island.
Port Antonio is a small, laid- back capital with colonial themed buildings and one that seems to go back in time. It was a pleasure strolling through the streets and viewing the old bricks and wooden structures. It is also a town that sits right along-side the coast. A drive-by is ideal for anyone who is looking to have a quick view of the Eastern Coastline of Jamaica.
Moon San Villa, Portland, Port Antonio
Over the couple of days I was here, I was lucky enough to have experienced the East while staying at the Moon San Villa. Located right on the waters of the Blue Lagoon, this little island home was exactly ‘what the Doctor ordered‘. A spot tucked away on the hill, overlooking the lagoon and where the sound and view of hummingbirds were ever so fulfilling.
A start to my days here were always so pleasant. It began with ‘a room with a view‘ and then ‘breakfast with a view‘, which of course, did not disappoint. These were some of my favourite moments including being fed with the island’s national dish: Ackee & Saltfish.
Moon San Villa embraces a local island Jamaican feel. From the paintings on the wall, to the making of frameworks by local artists and of course to the humming of the tropical island birds.
Getting around
Moon San Villa is located on the lagoon with a 5 minute walk to the edge. If you ever get the chance, try to do the river rafting.
With such an easy access central point, getting to the main attractions within the area is quite easy. A 10-15minutes drive along the coastline takes you to the city centre. Another 10 takes you to Frenchman’s Cove, San San Beach. In the opposite direction, Boston Bay Jerk Centre and Reach Falls.
A short walk from the Villa takes you to the viewing point of Monkey/Princess Island.
In the space of 3 days, I was able to cover most of the recommended destinations.
Having gotten the chance to stay here while exploring the East Coast has been nothing short of fulfilment. The vista and a friendly staff was so pleasing. I enjoyed waking up to the view of the lagoon.
Portland, Port Antonio is the green and untouched side of Jamaica. When planning your next visit to the island, try to experience this unspoilt side.
I am already planning a re-visit and hoping to have my family enjoy the coast while staying at the Moon San Villa as well.
Happy travels on your next irie trip here.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures of our island, Shea. Many people do not know that Port Antonio is the birthplace of tourism in Jamaica.
