I Checked into A Cabin in Mexico: Roca Venados (Review)

Posted In: Featured | Mexico | Travels

Seeing and experiencing Mexico from a different angle was the ultimate goal when I realised it would be my first 2017 destination.

I wanted to explore locations that were sort of.. “off-the-grid” and basically experience a different side of Mexico.

During my second week here, I checked into a cute little cabin in the woodlands. Here’s what it was like checking into Roca Venados in Mascota, Jalisco.

Overview of Mascota

The idea of experiencing Mexico from a different angle; travelling throughout some of the lesser known areas seeking an authentic experience off the beaten path.

Mascota lies just a few hours from the country’s west coast.  In the winter season, days are dry, sunny and the night times are a little bit cooler due to higher altitudes (around 1,500m). I figured it would be a great idea to check into a cosy cabin in the woods and experience something new; something, unlike many people may perceive to be typically Mexican.

APueblo Magico“, Mascota is a short ride away from Roca Venados, a town with just over 9,000 inhabitants that promises a unique cultural exposure.

Roca Venados, Mascota

I had no hesitations in letting Roca Venados become home for a few days. A 25-minute drive from the town, the location is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by pine tree clad hills and is a safe bet for a relaxing break.

During the winter season the area will experience cool night time temperatures, perfect for sitting round the fire pit after a calm sunny day. With a country so vast and diverse experiencing the cabin life at Roca Venados during the winter time sets the ideal cabin mood.

What Roca Venados Offers

With an all-year-round service, Roca Venados will appeal to those who are looking to enjoy a tranquil getaway + a few activities to keep you entertained. Offering rock climbing, zip-lining, walks through the surrounding forest with great views of the river and water falls during the summertime.

I loved to marvel at the stars after sundown, and then move on to the firepit to keep warm whilst sipping a hot chocolate as the cool air swept over the hills.

Experiencing Roca Venados

A short stay in Roca Venados away from the constraints of town/city life makes me grateful for the smaller things in life. Taking in the scenery, breathing the fresh air and just kicking back and enjoying every moment passing was an appreciable way to spend a few days.  The staff were so friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful and warmhearted.
